Description The ViPrimePLUS Ancylostoma duodenale qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Ancylostoma duodenale genome in clinical samples (e.g. stool), food (e.g. undercooked meat) and soil samples. Hookworms are common soil transmitted nematodes which cause severe anaemia and iron deficiency in children from the tropics. Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus are responsible for 576–740 million human hookworm infections worldwide. A. duodenale is also an important animal pathogen that causes gastrointestinal disease and malnourishment. Prevalence of A. duodenale infection is mainly in North Africa, the Middle East and India, whereas N. americanus predominantly affects the Sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia, and the Americas. Aside from transmission through ingesting contaminated food, the infective larva in the soil could penetrate human skin and access into the host body circulation as well. They travel to the lung and intestine, residing and causing infection. In the intestine, the ***** hookworms will attach to the blood vessels and feed on the nutrients from the host blood, leading to severe blood loss and diarrhoea. Infection in the lung results in inflammation. Both parasitic infections are treated with anthelmintic medicine. Real time PCR provides a fast, specific and sensitive detection of these parasites, even in the egg form. ViPrimePLUS Ancylostoma duodenale qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
