The ViPrimePLUS Campylobacter coli qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Campylobacter coli genomes in faecal and food samples.
Campylobacter spp. represents a group of Gram negative, spiral-shaped bacteria that infects the gastrointestinal tract causing campylobacteriosis. Transmission of infection is usually via ingestion of contaminated food and water. This foodborne infection causes symptoms of fever, abdominal cramp, bloody diarrhea and dysentery and is usually self-limiting where it will resolve within a week in most healthy person. However, in immunocompromised individuals, Campylobacter often invades the bloodstream causing life-threatening infection. C. jejuni is the main cause of campylobacteriosis, followed by C. coli, a close relative. Therefore, routine screening and good hygiene practice in food handling is essential.
