Description The ViPrimePLUS Dobrava-Belgrade Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Dobrava-Belgrade Virus genomes in clinical samples (e.g. serum). Hantavirus is a rodent hosted virus that causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) by the Old World hantavirus and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) by the New World hantavirus in human. Dobrava-Belgrade virus (DOBV) is the most life-threatening Old World hantavirus in European countries with up to a 12% fatality rate. There are 3 genotypes of DOBV, which are hosted by different Apodemus species. The Apodemus flavicollis hosted DOBV-Af causes severe HFRS in southeast Europe, while the Apodemus ponticus associated DOBV-Ap infection resulted in more moderate disease in the southern European part of Russia. The mild-to-moderate infection by the Apodemus agrarius borne strains (DOBV-Aa) however, are more common in the Central and Eastern Europe. Transmission is via inhalation of aerosolized bodily fluids and bites of the infected rodents. Human to human transmission is yet to be reported. The infection can be treated with intravenous antiviral drugs such as ribavirin and symptoms relieved by fluid and electrolyte replacement. ViPrimePLUS Dobrava-Belgrade Virus RT-qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
