Description The ViPrimePLUS Norovirus genotype 2 RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Norovirus genotype 2 genome in clinical samples (e.g. stool), food samples and environmental water samples. Norovirus is a small, single-stranded RNA virus, which is also known as the Norwalk virus that is responsible for the 80% non-bacterial outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis worldwide and prone to occur during winter season. The symptoms of the disease include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever that normally lasted for 2 days. It affects individuals of all ages, however prolong infection may occur in children and elderly. The virus is shed in stool by infected patients, thus is transmitted through contacting with contaminated surfaces and ingesting contaminated water and food. The ease of transmission and low infection dose bring to major outbreaks in many environmental settings. There are 5 recognized genogroups, in which GI, GII and GIV affect human. Under GI, there are 7 strains and GII consists of 12 strains.
