The ViPrimePLUS Mycoplasma felis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Mycoplasma felis genome in clinical conjunctiva samples.
Mycoplasmas are Gram negative microorganisms that have been isolated from many animal species. M. felis is a common parasite of cats, which resides in the upper respiratory and lower genital tract. It can be carried asymptomatically or cause conjunctivitis, respiratory diseases and polyarthritis in cats. In horse, the infection causes pneumonia. The early symptoms include serous discharge from affect eyes, swelling of the conjunctiva, hyperaemia and uncontrolled spasms or twitching of the eyelid. As infection progresses the discharge becomes more mucoid, possibly containing puss and the conjunctival swelling worsen.
