Gentamicin sulfate is a broad spectrum antibiotic, possessing anti-bacterial and antiricketssial properties. It is highly effective in treatint primary and secondary bacterial infections. Gentamycin capable of effectively inhibiting certain disease manifestations caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and other pathogenic organisms. It is also useful in treating mastitis in cattle.
It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to L6 protein of 50S ribosomal subunit. Gentamycin Sulfate is used in cell and tissue culture and also for transport of cell cultures, certain clinical specimens containing viruses or specimens in which overgrowth of bacteria should be avoided.
