Chaetoglobosin A is a mycotoxic cytochalasin. It was found to inhibit nematode proliferation and egg hatching. It also causes mortality of second stage juveniles of Meloidogyne incognita. Many of chaetoglobosins show acute toxicity to mammals, as well as cytotoxicity to human cancer cell lines such as KB, K562, MCF-7, and HepG2.
The main fungi producing Chaetoglobosins are:
-Cladosporium, in particular Stenocarpella(or Diplodia) macrospora and Stenocarpella(or Diplodia) maydis. These fungi can also produce diplodiatoxin whose neurotoxicity may associate to that of chaetoglobosins (Wicklow, 2011).
-Calonectria morganii(especially on plants)
-Chaetomium globosum, commonly found in water-damaged walls and causes Sick Building Syndrome(SBS).
