Agar is utilized for a variety of purposes including culture media, gel preparation, and microbiological work. Often used as a growth medium for bacteria and fungi, Agar is also an excellent matrix for work with proteins and nucleic acids due to being suited for separating large molecules. Immunodiffusion, chromatography, determination of the mobility of microorganisms, and evaluation of chemotaxis and chemokinesis towards a chemoattractant are all other applications for porous agarose gel.
