Function: Component of the coat protein complex II (COPII) which promotes the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The coat has two main functions, the physical deformation of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane into vesicles and the selection of cargo molecules (By similarity).
Tissue Specificity: Abundantly and ubiquitously expressed.
Sequence Similarities: Belongs to the WD repeat SEC31 family.
Post-Translational Modification: Monoubiquitinated by the BCR(KLHL12) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, leading to regulate the size of COPII coats.
Cellular Location: Cytoplasm. Cytoplasmic vesicle > COPII-coated vesicle membrane. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane.

Associates with membranes in a GTP-dependent manner.
