Increases hydrophilic properties of polymers when copolymerized into a range of acrylate and methacrylate systems. Has been used in hydrogel systems for ocular delivery of ophthalmic drugs. The homopolymer has been used as a novel adsorbed coating for protein separation by capillary electrophoresis.
