Filipin (from Streptomyces filipinensis)

Filipin is highly fluorescent and binds specifically to cholesterol. It is widely used as a histochemical fluorescent stain for cholesterol. It is a polyene antifungal antibiotic produced naturally by the bacteria Streptomyces filipinensis.
